Competitiveness in a glimpse

Competitiveness is one of the concept that mostly cited by the press, student, and also politician, especially when dealing with the competitiveness againts the foreign or “out there”. I would like to quote the map of understanding of the competitiveness. According to Porter (1998), cited from US-ITC report, At least three perspectives of competitiveness: from politican or government, from economist, and from the industry or firm. Politician always think that competitiveness means our export is higher than our import. Economist, based on the international trade theory, always assume that competitiveness always refer to the price after adjusted with exchange rate, the lower the price the more competitive. The firm, which facing the real competition only think that competitivenes is as long as the firm could produce and sell the goods and services abroad with the significant market share, the higher the share the more competitive of the firm.

Why Worry?

There are only two things happen: either you are sick or you are healthy. If you are healthy you don’t have to be worry. If you are sick there are only two things happen: either you are die or get well. If you are get well, you don’t have to be worry. If you are die, there are only two things happen: either you are going to hell or heaven. If you are going to heaven you don’t have to be worry. if you are going to hell, you will be very busy shacking hands with friends inside there and you don’t have time to be worry!
